Residents Invited to Discuss Local Geothermal Lithium Project
Residents in and around Chacewater are being invited to attend an upcoming Community Liaison Group (CLG) meeting for the Cross Lanes Geothermal Lithium Project, led by Cornish Lithium.
The meeting will take place on Wednesday 27 May, 17:00–18:00, in the Killifreth Room at Chacewater Village Hall, and is open to all local residents, community groups, and interested parties.
What is the Cross Lanes Geothermal Lithium Project?
The Cross Lanes site forms part of Cornish Lithium’s wider work to extract lithium from geothermal waters deep beneath Cornwall. Lithium is a key material used in batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage, making it central to the UK’s transition to lower-carbon energy systems.
Unlike traditional mining, geothermal lithium extraction involves bringing naturally heated water to the surface, removing dissolved lithium, and then reinjecting the water underground. The aim is to minimise surface disruption while making use of Cornwall’s unique geology.
What will be covered at the meeting?
At this session, the project team will:
- Provide an update on Phase 1 enabling works currently underway
- Outline the overall project timeline
- Explain what the next stages of development may involve
Importantly, the meeting is also designed as a two-way conversation.
An opportunity for local input
Attendees will have the chance to:
- Ask questions directly to the project team
- Raise any concerns about local impacts
- Share views on how the project interacts with the community
Community Liaison Groups are intended to ensure that local voices are heard as projects progress, particularly where there may be environmental, traffic, or amenity considerations.
Attending the meeting
The CLG is open to everyone, although attendees are encouraged to notify Cornish Lithium in advance to help manage numbers.
