Discover the Wildlife of United Downs
Join local scientists, naturalists and the United Downs Environment Group for Nature’s Rare Treasures, a free community event exploring the remarkable wildlife and habitats found around the United Downs area.
The day begins at Crofthandy Village Hall with a series of short talks from experts covering the flora, butterflies, mosses and liverworts associated with Cornwall’s historic mining landscapes. A light lunch will be available before activities move to United Downs Raceway in the afternoon.
At the raceway, visitors can choose from a range of guided nature exploration tours led by scientists and local experts, learning about the rare species that make the area so special. Refreshments and cake will also be available.
Families are especially welcome, with the popular Children on Wheels session running from 2.45pm to 4.00pm, giving children and young people the opportunity to enjoy the raceway on bicycles, scooters and pedal-powered go-karts. Participants should bring their own helmet and wheeled vehicle. Electric and battery-powered vehicles are not permitted.
